Two Coats of Sea Foam Green

I let the first coat of Aquagard 190 primer cure overnight, then rolled on a second coat. After a little more than the 4-hour recommended drying time, I opened my can of Aqua Gloss Sea Foam Green.

I havent gotten so excited at the sight of a color since I was 4 years old & opening a big, brand-new box of Crayola® Crayons. The Sea Foam Green paint just seemed to glow inside that black-lined can!

I rolled on the first coat, and let it cure overnight. Then I rolled on the second coat this morning.

So far, so good.

G9 minus two

Two days to the G9 Boatbuilders Gathering. Ive basically been focusing on getting the boat trailerable. The boat wont be finished, of course, but several other builders have encouraged me to bring it, as-is.

Hard to resist. Ive wanted to have my own boat at one of these events for years now.

In yesterdays post, I left off at the "predicament" that the bow support would not reach the boat. This morning, I had a mind-blowing epiphany: "Push the boat forward." Sheesh.

True, this does push the boat forward enough that the hull is not being supported by the full length of the bunks, but I think it will be okay. The bow eye placement turned out to be a non-issue... in fact Id say its near ideal.

The locking mechanism on the trailer winch isnt working properly, so for the time being Im using a tie-down strap on the bow.

A state DNR ranger came out today to inspect the hull. This is part of the boat registration process, in order to create a HIN (Hull Identification Number) for the boat.

Piece by piece, step by step... its all slowly coming together.

More Uses for a Two ton Crane

My neighbor at the shop came up with yet another novel way to use the two ton overhead crane.

Ben floating over the bottom of his boat with his dad in the background steering the crane to move him into position for applying the next batch of resin.

Back to work

With the successful launch of Perseverance last weekend at G9 behind me, its time to get back to work on getting the little boat finished.

Yesterday, I applied the 2nd coat of epoxy to the center third of the interior, as well as the remaining length of the sheers. This area is now ready to be painted.

This area between frames #1 and #2 is ready to be painted.
The aft third of the interior still needs a 2nd coat of epoxy.

Two More Coats of Whidbey White

Ill just let the pictures tell the story...

Here you can see the flattened area & secondary indentations on the bow to accommodate the bow eye. The hull has also been lightly sanded with 220 grit in preparation for the 3rd coat of paint.

Hull lightly sanded in preparation for the 3rd coat of paint.

After two more coats of Whidbey White, I pulled off the tape and newspaper.

I had to do a little touch-up painting along the edges of the transom. There are several more spots that need some touch-up paint.

Sea Foam Green, Whidbey White, and bright-finished Meranti.

Ink from the newspaper left ugly stains on the paint. So far, I havent been able to clean them off. I may simply paint another coat over it. Obviously, I wouldnt recommend using newspaper for this sort of thing.

Fitting the bow eye.
